The Value of Dental Examinations
Along with regular dental cleanings, your regularly-scheduled dental visits also include a comprehensive dental examination. During each exam, or checkup, Dr. Jack or Dr. Carter will perform a visual inspection of your teeth, gums, and more, and may use digital X-rays or an intraoral camera for a more thorough analysis. Routinely inspecting your mouth allows us to ensure that your smile remains healthy, and that there are no structural issues with your teeth. We will also screen for abnormalities like lesions, ulcers, sores that don’t heal, and other potential signs of oral cancer.
During your examination, we will check your teeth for signs of cavity development, damage, worn areas of your dentition, and more. We will carefully inspect your gums for signs of gingivitis, which include swelling, redness, and bleeding gums. We complete a full head and neck exam during your oral cancer screening. By maintaining a steady schedule of exams, you can improve your chances of avoiding dental issues, and the need for extensive dental work.
